How to Customise your Shopify Store

Customising your Shopify store allows you to create a unique shopping experience that reflects your brand. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the customisation process:

Step 1: Log into Your Shopify Admin

  1. Go to Shopify Login.
  2. Enter your store’s credentials to access the admin dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to the Themes Section

  1. In the admin dashboard, look for the Online Store section on the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Click on Themes. This will take you to the Themes page where you can manage your current theme.

Step 3: Access the Theme Editor

  1. In the Themes page, find your current theme.
  2. Click on Customise to open the theme editor.

Step 4: Customise the Theme Settings

In the theme editor, you can customise various aspects of your store:

1. Header and Footer:

  • Header:
    • Add your logo by clicking on the header section and uploading an image.
    • Customise the navigation menu by adding or removing menu items.
    • Set up announcement bars for promotions or important information.
  • Footer:
    • Add links to important pages (e.g., Contact Us, About Us, Privacy Policy).
    • Include social media icons and links.
    • Add a newsletter signup form if applicable.

2. Home Page:

  • Add sections such as image sliders, featured products, collections, testimonials, and more.
  • Customise each section by clicking on it and adjusting the settings.
  • Rearrange sections by dragging and dropping them into your desired order.

3. Collection and Product Pages:

  • Collection Pages:
    • Customise the layout and number of products displayed per row.
    • Add filters and sorting options to improve user experience.
  • Product Pages:
    • Add detailed product descriptions, high-quality images, and videos.
    • Include customer reviews, size guides, and related products.
    • Set up variant options (e.g., size, colour) if applicable.

4. Blog and Pages:

  • Blog:
    • Customise the blog layout and style.
    • Add featured images, excerpts, and social sharing buttons.
  • Pages:
    • Create and customise additional pages like About Us, FAQ, and Contact Us.
    • Use the page editor to add text, images, and other content blocks.

Step 5: Customise Theme Styles

  1. In the theme editor, go to Theme settings.
  2. Here, you can adjust:
    • Colours: Set colours for different elements like background, text, buttons, etc.
    • Typography: Choose fonts and sizes for headings, body text, and other text elements.
    • Buttons: Customise the style, shape, and colour of buttons.
    • Social Media: Add links to your social media profiles.
    • Favicon: Upload a favicon for your store.

Step 6: Add Custom Code (Optional)

For advanced customisation:

  1. In the Themes page, click on Actions next to your theme.
  2. Select Edit code.
  3. You can edit the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files to make more detailed customisations. This is recommended for users with coding knowledge or with the help of a developer.

Step 7: Save and Preview

  1. Save your changes frequently to avoid losing any edits.
  2. Use the Preview option to see how your store looks on both desktop and mobile devices.
  3. Make sure to test all functionalities to ensure everything works correctly.

Step 8: Publish Changes

Once you are satisfied with your customisations:

  1. Click on Save to apply the changes.
  2. Your Shopify store will now reflect the customisations you made.
